  • LG officially Announce LG Optimus 3D

    Yesterday a photo of a new LG Smartphone was leaked onto the internet which was presumably the new LG Optimus 3D. Now LG have come out and officially confirmed that they will be unveiling the LG Optimus 3D at the MWC this year. It’s set to have a glasses free 3D display and a 3D camera.   • Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 hits Android Market

    Konami is a big name video game publisher who have created great games such as the Metal Gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill series. After creating hit titles for various consoles in the past, Konami has made its way to Android with the popular football series Pro Evolution Soccer. Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 is now available to download from the Android Market.

  • Google Maps App Update brings Latitude

    Google have updated their Google Maps Android app, to version 5.1.0. The new update brings the Google Latitude service to the table, Googles answer to Foursquare. Much like Foursquare, Latitude shows were your friends currently are. Latitude also has an integrated check-in feature, so you can check in at your favourite place and show your friends where you are eating or watching a film. When users check-in somewhere Latitude works together with Places to show you the Places page of where you checked in, so you can read reviews about it. You can also choose to automatically check-in at your favourite places. Also when leaving the bar or restaurant you checked in at, Google Latitude will automatically check you out. Google have also released a short video which is a good introduction to their new Google Latitude service (see below).

  • Is this the new LG Optimus 3D?

    LG made an announcement not long ago that they sent out invites that stated “Into the new Dimension” for the MWC this year. Plenty speculated that LG would be announcing a new 3D smartphone. Now the U.S. website Phandroid have found an alleged photo of the so called Optimus LG 3D(see below). Whether or not this picture is legitimate is yet to confirmed, we will just have to wait until the MWC for LG to confirm whether or not the rumor is true.

  • Android Tablet Market Share hits 22%

    According to a study by the market research company Strategy Analytics, Android Tablets accounted for 22% of market share in the fourth quarter last year jumping up from 2.3% the quarter prior. Whereas in the corresponding quarters the Apple iPad dropped from 96% to 75%. The jump in Android Market Share is attributed with the release of the Samsung Galaxy Tab which has of now sold over 2 million units worldwide. Meanwhile many new Android Tablets are expected to be announced throughout 2011, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, the Motorola Xoom and the HTC Flyer. Which in turn is expected to help the Android market share continue to grow throughout 2011.

    Android 3.0 HoneycombOn the 2nd of February 2011 Google will be doing a live stream of a Android presentation in Mountain View. As reported by Engadget the presentation will be taking “an in-depth look at Honeycomb, Android ecosystem news and hands-on demos.” The stream will be on the Android YouTube channel www.youtube.com/android starting at 10am PST.

  • Android Nr.1 Smartphone in the U.S. by 2012

    The U.S. market research company eMarketer has stated in their latest publication that by 2012 Android will be the number 1 operating system in the U.S. market. While the Android market share only stood at 6% in 2009 by the end of 2010 it had reached 24%. By 2012 it is predicted that every 1 in 3 smartphones in the U.S. will be running on the Google OS. However the market research company did say that fragmentation could still be a problem for growth in the future.

    Motorola have released a short new teaser video on YouTube of their new smartphone the Motorola Atrix. The video shows off some of the smartphones docking capabilities when used with a TV or computer(see below). This video is a nice little appetizer for those out there who are eagerly waiting for this smartphone.

  • Picture of the new HTC Flyer Tablet?

    HTCOver the last month plenty of pictures of new tablets have been finding their way onto the Internet. This year promises to be a good year for Tablets with every man and his dog planning to release a Tablet onto the Market. With Samsung expected to unviel the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 at the MWC this month, pictures of the new HTC tablet have also surfaced on the Internet. This new Tablet supposedly called the HTC Flyer should apperantly have a resolution of 1024 × 600 pixels with a rear facing 5 megapixel camera and a 1.3megapixel camera on the front. The HTC Flyer is expected to be releaesed with Android 2.3 and then later updated to the Tablet optimized version of the OS, Android 3.0. A supposed photo of the Flyer has appeareed on the U.S. website ThisAndroidLife.

  • Facebook Android App Update brings Deals

    Yesterday, Facebook updated their Android app on the Android Market. With version 1.5.1 Facebook have introduced “Deals”, a service found through the Facebooks “Places” feature. “Deals”  allows users to find coupons and discounts for places in their area. When there is a restaurant or store close by that has a deal through Facebook “Deals” the name of their store will show up in the Facebook “Places” check-in area with a yellow icon next to it. As well as adding this new feature Facebook have fixed a few bugs with this recent update.
