Its so convenient to have an alarm on ones smartphone or tablet. Most Android devices come standard with some kind of alarm clock feature. There are however plenty of alarm clock apps on the Android Market, with many different variations and styles. This particular app simply named Alarm Clock Free is a recent addition to the Android Market and we thought we would give it a test.

Functions & Design

After installing the application and starting it up it will go straight into the its sleek digital clock display. The numbers being a very cool looking green with a black background. Unfortunately the developers included a advertisement banner which lets the app down in a way, but there is a Alarm Clock Pro available to buy with no advertisements. The paid version also allows users to choose between a few different clock colours as well, these being orange, pink, blue, cyan, red, and yellow.

Through the settings menu the user can specify whether they want to show the seconds or the day of the week and if they want they can have their clock in 24-hour time. When setting an alarm the user will also be able to set specific settings for each alarm, for instance they can choose between sveral different alarm tones, the alarm volume or decide if they want the alarm tone to fade in. They can also decide how long the snooze feature lasts for and whether or not it will vibrate.

The paid version of the app, in addition to the lack of advertisements and the extra alarm clock colours, also throws in the ability to set an MP3 as an alarm. Users can also adjust the brightness of the screen by sliding their finger up or down the screen and finally it comes with a built-in flashlight.

Conclusion

Though the Alarm Clock Free does not have all the features its paid version has, it’s still a extremely stylish digital alarm clock app. A fade-in feature for your alarm is in our opinion a must have. We’re sure there are plenty of people out there who set their alarm clocks volume to high and then get blasted out of bed when it goes off or the others who don’t set the volume loud enough and just don’t wake up, it’s just so much easier to be slowly woken up and if you have the paid version to one of your favourite songs.
