  • Ringdroid

    Description

The times in which mobile phones were only equipped with a handfull of ringtones, from which the user had to select one from is long gone. Whereas these days users can assign different tones for different notification sounds, whether it be your be alarm clock, your incoming call tone or message tone plus the ability to simply play music from phones makes the olden days look pretty meek musicwise. Ringdroid takes it to another level allowing users to personalize their smartphones further by creating their own ringtones by editing a music track or recording an entirely new track through their smartphone.

    Functions & Design

After starting the app the user will be presented with a list of all the stored audio files on their smartphone. Once selecting a song or tone the user will be directed to a page where they song will then play and they will see the wave form of the selected song displayed. Through this display users can easily edit in or out what parts of songs they want or dont want. This can be done through simply marking out what part of the sound wave you want to keep, this tool can be used fairly precisely to choose exactly when you want your tone to start or end by being able to zoom into particular parts of the song.

If the user doesnt want to use an existing audio file, users can also record their own ringtone through Ringdroid. By simply clicking on the “New record” button on the homescreen and the user can go crazy recording their own stuff. Ringdroid supports MP3, WAV, AAC and AMR formats.

    Conclusion

Although Ringdroid already lets users free reign editing or creating music with their app, their are some features that are not yet included, for example a fader is still missing. But the developers of Ringdroid have proved they are open to new ideas, providing surveys on their website, for users to give their opinions. Thus it is likely we will see improvements for Ringdroid in the future. But at the moment the app definitly can stand up and be accounted for, especially as it can now be downloaded for free from the Android Market. We tested version 2.4.
