    Runtastic Android AppDescription

Runtastic is a self-proclaimed application that assists users in optimizing their fitness program, through various functions. Is it really worth the trouble of using or are users better of using something else? Lets have a look.

    Functions & Design

Upon starting up the application the user will be prompted to create an account with his or her email address. The app will then ask to connect to your GPS so it can track your current location. When using the GPS the user can track the excerise route when they go running, which can then be used to determine the distance run.

When starting a session the app will ask what type of exercise you will be doing so it can make the proper calculations later on, the list of activities is rather long, the list includes activites such as running, biking, mountainbiking, hiking, skiing, kayaking and jogging, but there are plenty more. Afterwards when starting your session, the application will keep track of your the distance you have run, how long you have been going for and how fast you are going. While also tracking the route you have run, where you are now and how many calories you have lost. It is also possible to track your heart rate with the application but users must have a heart rate monitor that is compatible with the app. And after you have completed your session users can save them so they can later compare these olders sessions with their new ones, keeping track of their process.

There are also numerous settings that the user can adjust through the settings menu to optimize his training experience. Such as turning the heart rate monitor on or off or deciding whether to have voice feedback on. Users can also share their training sessions with their freinds over Facebook or Twitter.

By tracking the amount of calories you’ve lost, how far you have run and your heart rate (if you have the right equipment), and then comparing it to later sessions can really help you get into it when you see yourself progressing. Not to mention the fact this app is now completely free, there really is no reason to give this great little app a go.
