Google has conducted a test in the United States concerning the marketing potential of their object recognition application Google Goggles. The test included leading companies such as Disney, T-Mobile and Delta Airlines. The participants provided their current print advertisements, movie posters and other promotional material with a special Goggle day. When someone points their Goggle enabled smartphone towards at the same app on one of these posters, their smartphone is automatically routed to a special website providing them with more information concerning the application. The principle is similar to QR codes, which are often used in the Android Marketplace in conjuction with specific apps. Whether Google will conduct such tests in Europe in the future is at present unknown.
